The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device
Exactly 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching the animation giant as a leading film company and bringing viewers to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a brief look into the plot but leaving viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang
The preview reveals Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a brand new plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a fair and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.
Surely, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Connections from the Last Installment
At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the badge attached to her outfit.
It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
