Iran Claims Strike on US Base in Bahrain, Amid Widespread Counterattacks.
Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched operations throughout the Middle East in response for a large-scale and ongoing attack against it by the United States and Israeli forces.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an vicinity close to the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The extent of any destruction is unclear and the US has not commented.
Regional Interceptions
In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait - which all house US military bases - said they have intercepted missiles in their territorial skies.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
IRGC Statement
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the offensive on Iran launched by the US and Israel on Saturday.
That preceding assault - initiated at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far struck sites associated with the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump urging the Iranian people to revolt against the regime.
Regional Fallout
In the State of Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates stated that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems responded to the projectiles with notable success and successfully intercepted a several projectiles," it added.
The statement noted wreckage fell on a populated district in the capital, causing some material damage and the death of one civilian.
The United States Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
