How can you boost a stellar veteran squad who have secured consecutive championships, including a league-cup double boasting thirty wins from thirty-two games?

A Greater Manchester club boasts an non-professional vets squad with 9 ex- top-flight footballers in their active roster.

Two Hundred Twenty-Two Top Division Scores, Three Hundred Twenty-Five International Caps

The team Vets Over-35s are situated in south the city and play in the Cheshire-based Vets League Premier Division.

So great is the bench strength at Wythenshawe, he had his debut at defender.

"It's a bit different but then, I love running and just move forward - I'm not defending that much," he said.

"I warn my centre-back 'I'm not staying' and that I'm just going to continue running.

"The movement is what I'm after. It's enjoyable."

'Surreal Scenario

In addition to Cisse's six scores on his first game, Stephen Ireland has netted 8 in 3 games for Wythenshawe, while George Boyd scored 5 on his first appearance and Joleon Lescott, a centre-half by trade, scored a hat-trick in one game as a striker.

Wythenshawe are leading of the Top Tier with three victories from three and a GD of +19.

Paul Barrow, thirty-eight, who features on the wing for the opposition, came up against ex- Wigan full-back Maynor Figueroa on the weekend - and had to tell his nine-year-old boy who Heskey was.

"I felt I was a bit starstruck facing Figueroa to be honest.

"We competed well for a good twenty minutes but then we had a player dismissed and it was hard.

"We really have not ceased talking about it - I was phoning my mother and brother on the journey home.

"The opponents were all really nice, shaking our hands after the game - it was like playing a group of regular guys.

"Now we can't wait for the second match."
